If you reveal your secrets to the wind,
you should not blame the wind
for revealing them to the trees.
Khalil Gibran
Landscapes and seascapes,
and finally the route
that leads to escapes;
winds and the shields,
the gossamer fields
are gently shaken to let flow
the secrets of dandelions blown in the summer wind.
And then the secrets are whispers no longer;
they are loudly proclaimed to the listening fields.
The secrets of flower are in the pollens
never to be held in the calyx.
They enter the thoughts
and turn into poetry and music,
and the dancing steps of the ballerina,
and the secret of all is the single thread;
there has to be an escape for the pollens and seeds.

Image: Muriel Streeter (1913-1995), The Chess Queens, 1944
On the shores of an island far from wars
chess was a game which defied the rules.
Far in the distance the citadels gleamed in white sunshine
like white elephants of peace.
The chessboard elephants rambled into the forests
and stood on the opposite shores, waiting for the signal
of peace.
The horses, black and white, forgot that they were of different breeds.
It was a playful dance when they stood upright on their hind legs,
neighing to each other in disbelief.
The camels have just been knocked off the board and are still not out of the daze.
When did this happen; how did this happen, and why?
Well, you might note that the white and the black kings both
are nowhere to be seen. The place which was an intense battlefield
fell silent when the kings were no longer there to propel the war.
Only the two champions remain, the white and the black Queens.
They came close and whispered something; it could be a secret word,
a password for opening an era of peace.

The rain just stopped.
The moment of quiet which comes
when the sea recedes,
and draws into the silence intensely.
Reflections shine back.
Companions, soulmates come and walk
alongside me.
The rain, after all, did not fall in vain
upon the tiny umbrella and the vast sea.

I walk in my thoughts
each step taken
evokes new ideas,
every breath of the wind
expanding them.
I open myself
to these new words,
that will form into more new thoughts.
new thoughts that will take me
on more walks.
I’m never alone
as long as my thoughts are with me,
they cuddle and provoke me,
as each thought begets another.
There is comfort in silence,
solace in thinking,
passion in ideas, creation in words
as i walk in my thoughts.
