On the outskirts of some woebegone town
when the sky was overcast by clouds of rain
and massive shadows
a train rattled in and from a sunshine suburb
It ushered in a dash of an irrelevant hope.
There is still an era lingering there
beckoning people to get on the train
and find the space to sleep and dream.
Get off at any platform and wander into the town;
spend the day in anonymity and come back home
before the sun goes down beyond the hill.

May your today be as the best
of your yesterdays but not
nearly as good as the best of
your tomorrows. Always keep
the faith - all storms end...

I like this line: " It ushered in a dash of an irrelevant hope."

Makes me glad. Hopes should always be irrelevant. Less is the disappointment when they go unfulfilled but unexpected joy if they are fulfilled. Wish you a creative week ahead @Grace Wisdom

Trust me, when you will look back
      on one such night
as when everything will have gone out of sight
except this orb of the moon.
Remember how the sea called us
and we rushed, not to miss the hour of the moon.
Remember how the sky was clear,
      simple and true.
The moon on a night like this,
      moment by moment sailing afar
seemingly shy, seemingly hiding half of its truth.
Why does the moon perpetually hide
half of its sphere in the dark?
Perhaps we are not entitled yet
to all the answers, but someday we'll know.
The darkness on the other side is not dark.
It is energy held in reserve.
There is a moon in all of us, waxing, and waning,
and going into eclipse at the regulated time.
And the sea is there in us too,
rising in waves and ebbing, quiet.
In between are the vibes: energy that flows
      in the secret channels.
Come and wait by the sea
on one such night as this.
Play in the field of energy.
      Nobody is watching you play.
The sea and the moon will be forever there
to gently energize and take you along, all the way.

      The Sounds of the Rain
The sounds of rain , so near, and so far...
On the snow capped mountains the ice melts,
the water flows in a silent stream,
      and I hear that silence
in the raindrops falling on my window panes.
The rain can hear the silence reigning in my heart.
A slow beat, a plaintive note on a violin string,
stirs as if in the depth of a valley.
      A descent from the hills,
the rain has an easy fall.
      Down on the friendly slopes
the rain rolls, a child not scared of the fall.
And I am waiting, tremulously, to catch the rain in my arms.
Step by step, sometimes the rain descends
as the massive clouds watch the downhill slopes
until the streams gather and open the floodgates in a drastic wind.
Often in the moonsong, the rain delights.
Like a charmed herd of mountain deer
the rain follows the magic flute,
and like a revelation on an abrupt night
the rain speaks of the mysteries sung to the ears of the maids
      waiting for a marriage divine.
      The mesmerizing sound of rain
carries the burden of ages of a longing that has remained
pristine, clear like the moonshine of the nights when the longing is a note
of a symphony played out in a solitary forest, a pliant ocean holding aloft
the music falling in an incessant stream.
The rain has memories of ancient dreams...
The anguish in the sounds of the rain.

After the eclipse the moon emerges,
      clean but tainted.
After the devastation the psyche sings,
      clear-throated, harsh.
Poetry has to do odd jobs like sweeping the cobwebs
and dressing up for the morrow.
A turbid lake begins to flow.
      The rushing of fresh water into the canals;
      the channels are cleared,
      the healing done, poetry flows,
      clean and strong.

After a long spell of boring rain came the bright sunny day.
The apples, golden, red and yellow
from the orchard to the market straightaway.
and there to the scrutiny of the damsel, all aglow.
      The watermelons, ripe and juicy
the wholesome red passion hidden at heart
      nature's own way of poetry
The colors of paradise have painted busy the market into an art
No longer a market but a dance floor for the young and the old.
Each apple and melon is swollen with pride
The gardener is going to reap the harvest of gold
and a walk through this maze is a promise of a gorgeous ride.
      The springs of life just overflow;
you will hear their murmur if you lie low.
Thank you Milan for this gorgeous painting.

In The Darkness Blossomed A Fire

In the darkness blossomed a fire
a flaming red against the purest black.
      Petals of light
      defying expression,
      changing the language of discourse.
      Dazzling and finding its way
      to arise into the ray
      of clarity that belongs
neither to the sun nor the night.
Will it survive, how long is the life?
      An ephemeral delight
against the absolute purity of the black!

        Ambar ki ek paak suraahi
A sip of wine: and the moonshine,
I drank it from the unblemished sky.
I incurred blame, if not wrath.
        A debt I cannot redeem..
I borrowed a portion of measured time
and made a garment for the whole of life.
I incurred displeasure if not wrath
There is nothing of mine in what I did.
Whatever I did be of God's will,
and that is all I have to return to God.
I incur no loss if not God's favor.
