 A rock beside the waves, fixity beside the infinity.

Bulging shadows
over ocean's waves;
and the ocean agitating, swearing
to the gods in the sky.
Hypnotizing, mesmerizing
roaring waves and the maddening sea;
I have always watched from the steady unwavering coast,
imaginary spirits reigning over the waters and the sky.
Distracting images of mermaids, mariners, siren's songs;
Haunting, casting a spell
on the memory and the mind;
bewitching, like a rock risen waywardly in the place where the tide
ebbs and rises again.
Withdraw from the waves and just watch,
everything change and everything motionless and still.
Sushama Karnik.

I will remember the first lines, like the overture of a symphony that is meant to be played agitato, animato!
As the poem develops, its musicality is explored to perfection, with a multitude of nuances, an alternation of silence and roaring. The narrator, the observer and recipient of all the forces of the sea, stands as a music director, surfing on an infinity of sensations.
From largo to moderato, from andantino to the final adagio, the poetess is one with the sea, its amazing interpreter.

Sushama Karnik The language of the piano is that of the heart, like yours, full of nuances and emotions. You know the language of the piano, intimate, intuitive. The keyboard is your playground, and the notes resonate throughout the largos, andantes and allegros. In your poetic practice, words and sounds meet and the poet's art is to make them resonate, harmoniously. You know the language of music and play it with talent, intuitively.

 After praying endlessly that

may God change His ways towards all,

one day I thought of playing God,

and I became all the things God held back from me,

the places, the people, the open sky, and the vast sea,

the streets, the homes I had never seen,

the mountains and rivers far away...

And lo, everything God could not change,

I changed it all,

capriciously.

  There is a bridge hidden

where dense green shadows
during daylight play hide and seek,
and the trees whose mission it is to seek
wherever sunbeams freak out in the meadows, in the lakes,
and covetously hide the trace
of the sun's lingering face...
The shadows have taken this bridge under their leafy wings.
but the secret is betrayed by the rippling lake. there the reflection shines, invites,
come joyously, come fearlessly,
step on into the shadows.
There is safety as you walk across,
walk across the bridge.
Hidden truths cannot be hidden long,
else they become lies.

 Two antique lanterns in hand

we set off to seek
something precious in the sand
when the sun was setting
and the wind was sleeping.
Two antique lanterns in hand
we set off to find
something precious in the sand
when the sun was setting
and the wind was sleeping;
A child's fancies spurred by fables
we believed to be true.
You thought you found it;
and lo; before you could show it to me
it slipped and fell in the wet sand.
And seeing you sad,
I the ever hopeful
offered to help and held
my lantern aloft.
You bent and fiddled
with the wave and the sand.
In the flickering light,
the lantern swayed
The precious thing was lost.
The memories of that moment
reverberate on the land
and the sea carries it far beyond.
One day
someone will come to seek it again;
will find and hold it tight
not to let it slip away
and fall into the wet sand.
