The illusion
of parallel lines
meeting at a point in infinity!
Illusions, necessary!
They make things either too simple
and therefore put down as naive,
or too complicated
to hold on to
and survive..
Yet necessary
because we have a mysterious focal point
at the confluence of all the things,
and we see it all the while,
waking and dreaming,
at the languid point of falling asleep,
doing, struggling, retreating, resuming...
we advance to where we see
a dome of sunshine,
and it's never the sea,
the sea is the propeller, the wind which drives us
onward towards that dome, that shrine,
that point we see as infinity,
and illusions drive us on
the parallel lines that do not meet.

You and I are two parallel lines.
Practically speaking, we can never meet.
Theoretically, we do at infinity.
Where is infinity?
How do you get there?
How can you stay there?
... My infinity is where my heart is
where no one can take things away from us.
We cannot reach within our own hearts.
We only know they beat inside us
while belonging to someone else.
Mine is yours,
and so I will not lose it.
You will never lose it.
If one day yours too, became mine,
we would no longer be parallel lines.

- +Tony Cairns There have been men and women in the past, perhaps even in today's world, who recognize that point of having reached that limit. The world is gradually evolving towards that point, and perhaps in a few years that need will be felt in a stronger way.
REPLY 29w - +Sushama Karnik I hope that proves to be the case. I suppose we all, individually, have to make our own peace with the world. Existence is a mystery: everything that's external tells us that things must end; but from infancy onwards, we're filled with a sense of continuity, and of the endless. I think Tennyson beautifully expresses this duality in the poem(s) 'Nothing Will Die'/'All Things Will Die'...
REPLY 29w - +Tony Cairns Despite the words of Tennyson and like him, of many others who have echoed the thought, wars are being fought for stupid reasons; we threaten our neighbour nations and they threaten us back out of paranoia, and the world is going on and on. We look towards the youngsters with hope, but the political lobbies who wield power have been young once; they too held once a vision of the future, and yet once we enter the middle age we turn coarse and power hungry. Will these youngsters who march against the gun culture be able to bring about a change? I sincerely hope they will.
REPLY 29w - +Sushama Karnik I posted a piece of music by Tim Buckley recently: he loved the singer/songwriter Fred Neil, who wrote: 'I only know that peace will come when all our hate is gone'. My political instincts are often pessimistic, but if you don't live hopefully then you're merely existing!
Thanks for your passionate words and thinking, they're extremely valuable...REPLY 29w - +Tony Cairns Tomorrow morning I shall find that piece of music and listen to it. Time for me to say "Good night".
