The scent of water,
someone spoke.
In beautiful cascades, the waters flowed.
That water could speak
and that one could listen,
and moreover, translate the words to a symphony of notes
was a marvel I had never entertained before.
The waterfalls follow me to the depth of the valley,
and I, oblivious, walked alone,
until I felt the scent in the air
and the spray of the cool dew on my skin.
The murmur, the subdued note,
bordering on articulation and the soft beat of the silence in the heart
has ever since lived with me
in the deepest vaults of
the human habitations wherever they may be.
