For hours the little girl was sitting on her haunches.
The color of her summer dress blended
with the blue of the sky and the sea.
For hours her hands were working the shapes in the sand
and the castle in her mind was yet to take the form of her dream.
A pensive look was gathering around her face.
The roar of the sea, the howl of the distant wind
the sun beating upon them all, relentlessly;
the girl was getting the taste
of what it means to work against the odds.
Tired she was, but not so exhausted as to give up the bid.
Her will was pitted against the odds.
A sensitive bond was forming among them all,
the girl, the sea, the wind, the sky and her dream.

I love the kind of tired
that comes from
a lot of fresh air
and a little too
much sun.
