 A Dream Castle

The castle dreams of a moon
that will wax and never wane.
And the moon dreams of the casements
that open and will not close again.
On one such night the castle will cast no shadow.
The shimmering silhouette will draw the moon
and hold it captive in the sky.
The organ will sing a maidens song,
and the moon will cross the abyss and sink
in the night's arboreal arms.

Reminds me of Keats’ long poem that Ms Shroff taught us in F Y Arts , Additional English. Can’t remember the name of that poem though . Your poem too is very evocative and dream like.

I remember that poem, it was “ The Eve of St Agnes “ and the other long poem by Keats was “ Isabella “ . The first poem was very Keats, haunting and a typically Keatsian, sensuous poem. I had loved it .

In the meanwhile I was trying hard to locate it. The word "casements" would have helped, I thought. But you have found it. We studied various schools of poetry, but nothing could surpass Keats.

Lalita Paranjape Your comment in itself was evocative of the student days. For some time I was lost in memories. You said, Ms. Shroff taught you that poem. That must be the post-grad year.

Lalita Paranjape Now must search those two poems. I was very fond of the haunting castles of Keats.

Sushama Karnik . I studied these poems in the FY Arts Addl Eng class when I was studying in Elphinstone College. Those 2 years were the most fulfilling years for me. Memorable !

Oh really! I was under the impression that you were from Ruia. That;s why I concluded that she must have taught this poem to you at M. A. In my time at Elphinstone Ms. Shroff did not teach us literature. She taught the Science classes. Yes. The Elphins…

Sushama Karnik . I left Elphinstone after Inter Arts and completed my graduation in Eng Lit from Ruia. Shanta wasn’t teaching when I was in Elphinstone College

She was a sweet lady. I liked her smile. Very unlike the typical English Dept.

Sorry , did you mean Shanta ? I thought you were referring to Prif Ms Shroff . Shanta was in a class of her own.
Sushama Karnik
Yes, right; I was referring to Shanta.
