Francoise's comment on There, some Godly Beings
Françoise Dhulesia
I remembered the poem and may have read it differently today. Definitely always a delight to rediscover a text in the light of a new perspective.
Between “I saw them” and “as if”, the poet succumbs to the blur of the colors, in-between two worlds.
And as is often the case in Sushama's poetry, most of the experience of the outside world occurs at the edge, the place of all possibilities, where everything can happen.
The poem ends with the image of the swan, and celebrates sublimated beauty and love.
A poem that a good painter would love to interprete, playing with the subtlety of the colours and the blurry atmosphere.
There is a Turner quality to these lines that I have particularly appreciated.
